Alles wat je moet weten over wenkbrauwen bleachen

Everything you need to know about eyebrow bleaching

Every now and then the trend of bleaching the entire eyebrows returns. What is becoming increasingly popular is the Halal Brows treatment, in which hairs are bleached that would normally be waxed or plucked. Because we often get questions about the use of bleach, we will discuss all relevant information about eyebrow bleach in this blog.

The chemical process of hair bleaching

Bleaching is a chemical process that breaks down the natural pigments in the hair, resulting in a lighter color. This is usually done using hydrogen peroxide, which opens the hair cuticles and dissolves the melanin (the pigment). The longer the bleaching agent is left to work, the more pigment is removed and the lighter the hair becomes.

Difference between bleaching head hair and eyebrows

Although the chemical process of bleaching is similar for both scalp hair and eyebrows, there are key differences:

Skin sensitivity : The skin around the eyes is thinner and more sensitive than the scalp, which increases the risk of irritation. You can prevent this somewhat by first applying Zola Save Skin to the skin. Please note that this does affect the processing time.

Hair Thickness and Texture : Eyebrow hairs are often thicker and coarser than scalp hair, which affects how they respond to bleaching agents.

Safety : Just like eyebrow dyeing, bleaching also uses a maximum percentage of 3% oxidant (hydrogen peroxide). This means that bleaching is not as fast and intense as with head hair, where 9 or 12% is often used.

Why some hairs stay more yellow than others

During the bleaching process, the hair goes through different color stages, from brown to red/orange and finally to yellow and white. The yellow residue is often the result of residual pigments that are difficult to remove completely, especially in dark hair. Factors such as the original hair color, hair thickness and the bleaching technique used influence this process. Darker hair may require multiple bleaching sessions to achieve the desired lightness. Check the condition of the hair and skin and decide to bleach for a few more minutes if you find the hair too yellow.

Important Considerations for Eyebrow Specialists

  • Use suitable products : Always choose bleach products that are specifically designed for eyebrows to ensure safety and effectiveness. Suitable and popular products are: Zola BB Blond Powder and Brow Xenna Perfect Bleach or Brow Xenna Perfect Bleach Cream.

  • Patch test : Although we almost never do this in salons in the Netherlands, in England it is very common to do this with every client. Always do an allergy test on a small area of skin before doing the full treatment to avoid allergic reactions.

  • Training: Follow a (online) training to learn more about bleaching eyebrows. Practice with the products so that you learn everything about the processing times and technique.
