Henna Brows vs. Hybrid Brows: What's the Difference?

As an eyebrow specialist, you know that perfectly styled brows make a world of difference. But with so many techniques and products on the market, it can be difficult to make the right choice for your clients. Hybrid brows and henna brows are both popular treatments that offer long-lasting results, but they differ in a few ways.

In this blog we will dive deeper into the features, benefits and differences between hybrid brows and henna brows. This way you as a professional can make the best choice and provide your clients with expert advice.

Why did we start Henna Brows?

Let’s go back to the beginning: why did brow henna become so popular? A Henna Brows treatment uses brow henna, specially developed to colour the eyebrows. The big advantage? It not only colours the hairs, but also leaves a print on the skin. This made it ideal for clients who wanted a semi-permanent ‘tattoo effect’. Regular eyebrow dye didn’t offer that effect, because it only worked on the hairs. Some of our best-selling brow henna brands are Della & Delle and Zola.

For a long time, brow henna was the only option if you wanted that stained effect on the skin. But then hybrid dyes came on the market, with Bronsun as one of the first and most well-known brands. Hybrid Dye offers the same effect, but with a few important differences. Let's take a closer look!

Henna Brows vs. Hybrid Brows: What are the Differences?

1. Composition and mixing

  • Brow Henna : Based on natural henna powder, often enriched with plant-based, caring ingredients. Must be mixed with water and stirred well to prevent lumps.
  • Hybrid Dye : A chemical coloring that is a mix between classic eyebrow dye and henna, without the vegetable origin. Must be mixed with an oxidant.

2. Processing time

  • Brow Henna : Has a longer processing time. For a good stain you have to wait 15 minutes, sometimes even longer.
  • Hybrid Dye : Faster results! Usually around 10 minutes for a clear stain. Can be even shorter for a more natural effect,

3. Brow Lamination: Can they be combined?

It is often said that brow henna does not go well with brow lamination. It could dry out the hairs or cause allergic reactions more quickly. We ourselves have our doubts about this. Hybrid dye is a better option is often said and that is why many professionals switch to hybrid dye when they offer brow lamination.

4. Durability

We see little difference in how long the stain stays on the skin. On average, both henna brows and hybrid brows last about 7 days, but that depends on factors such as application, processing time, skin type and aftercare. On the hairs, both treatments remain visible for an average of 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the growth cycle.

What is the best choice for my salon?

There is no single best option, it all depends on your workflow and preferences. What we do see is that hybrid dye is becoming more popular . Many professionals find it easier to mix, it has shorter processing times, and they find it works better in combination with brow lamination. But if your clients love the largely natural properties of henna, brow henna is still a great choice!
