Lash Lift Treatment: A Step-by-Step Guide for Professionals

A lash lift is a popular beauty treatment that lifts and/or curls the natural lashes. For professionals, it is important to perform the treatment accurately and safely. In this guide, we will go through step by step how to perform a lash lift correctly.

Step 1: Preparation

Discuss with the client what effect she wants and what is possible, such as an extreme lift or a subtle curl. Then start by cleaning the lashes and eyelid with an eye and lash safe cleanser. This is essential for hygiene and ensures that the products adhere well. Use a suitable eyelash shampoo or foam .

Step 2: Choosing the Shields

As you may have learned during your lash lift training, there are different types of shields, also called silicone pads or rods. We like to use the term shields. The choice depends on the natural lash structure and the desired effect. Then you select the right size: the shorter the lashes, the smaller the shield. Place this just above the lash line. View our extensive collection of shields.

Step 3: Wrapping the lashes

One of the trickiest parts is positioning the lashes correctly on the shield, also known as wrapping. Work in sections, applying a small amount of glue at a time. Use a special lash tool, such as the Inlei Helper or the Lamitta Laminator Slide. It is crucial that the lashes are separated neatly and evenly.

Step 4: Applying the Lifting Lotion (Step 1)

This first lotion breaks the disulfide bonds in the hairs, making the lashes flexible and able to take on a new shape. (In a separate blog we will go into more detail about the chemistry behind a lash lift.) Apply the lotion evenly and precisely, avoiding the ends of the lashes. Follow the recommended processing time of the product, but be aware that these are guidelines and not exact times. Therefore, check in between with the 'Lash Check' whether the lashes have become sufficiently flexible and whether step 1 needs to be processed longer.

Step 5: Apply Fixing Lotion (Step 2)

Remove the lifting lotion carefully with a cotton swab to avoid residue. If necessary, neatly reapply the lashes to the shield. Then apply the fixing lotion exactly where the lifting lotion was. This lotion fixes the lashes in their new shape. Let it work for the recommended time.

Step 6: Eyelash Dyeing and Lash Botox Mask

After the fixing lotion has taken effect sufficiently, remove it. You can then dye the lashes for a more intense look. We recommend a dark shade, usually Blue-Black, for a deep black effect. Mix the dye with a 1.8% oxidant; a stronger oxidant is not necessary because the hair cuticles are already open. After the development time, carefully remove the dye with water or foam. Water does not affect the lift, so this can be used safely. If desired, a nourishing mask, also called lash botox, can now be applied.

Step 7: Nourishing (Step 3)

The final step is to apply a nourishing product, also called step 3. This product often contains keratin, collagen and betaine to care for the lashes. You can combine step 3 with any brand, but step 1 and 2 should always come from the same lash lift system.

Step 8: Aftercare and Advice

Advise the client to leave step 3 on the lashes for at least four hours for optimal nourishment. In addition, it is advisable to use an aftercare product . Although the treatment is performed carefully and contains nourishing products, a lash lift remains a chemical treatment. Good aftercare helps keep the lashes healthy and ensures the best result.

With these steps you will ensure a safe and effective eyelash lift that gives long-lasting results!
